During the course of the project the following actions will take place:
<!–[if !supportLists]–> I. <!–[endif]–>The construction of a pilot demonstration plant to test “different recipes” of fertilizer, based on products resulting from recycled treated organic waste (compost) and bio-chars, enriched with Vegetable Active Principles, in order to select the best performing one,
<!–[if !supportLists]–> II. <!–[endif]–>the utilisation of a specific Sensing Devices to follow the transformations of complex material during the different stages of the process and
<!–[if !supportLists]–> III. <!–[endif]–>a full data set will be collected to put together a specific data base.
Green raw material will be identified and collected during their balsamic period. After removing the parts which are damaged or not suitable , plants will be sorted according to their type and minced.
They will be then mixed with the natural liquids, in different proportions, to obtain a semisolid swill. At the end of fermentation, the Vegetable Active Principles will be stored at room temperature using a special technique in order to preserve their features in time. When the enzymes get in contact with the biomass to be treated they activate and begin the transformation process. All these factors (type of plants, amount of natural liquid added and the storage technique) will contribute to the optimisation of the formula to be used in the process.
The main parameters to be taken into account are: i) Farm Organic Residues and Urban Organic Waste characteristics, ii) Vegetable Active Principles , bio-char characteristics iii) heaps size and shape, iv) ripening time, v) humidity content of the original components, vi) effect of natural/forced air insufflated at the base of the heap and vii) process temperature during the time.
